Did you know that if you are suffering from serious ill-health, you may be able to take all of your benefits in the Plan as a single lump sum?
This is known as a ‘serious ill-health lump sum’ (“SIHLS”) and may be available if:
- a registered medical practitioner has confirmed that you are expected to live for less than one year;
- you have not already used up all of your Lifetime Allowance; and
- the SIHLS uses all of your benefits in the Plan.
If you think you may be eligible to receive a SIHLS, please contact Equiniti, the Plan Administrator, to request a serious ill-health lump sum form. This form will need to be completed by you and a registered medical practitioner, and shared with Equiniti as soon as you are able. The Trustee will then review your case and decide whether a SIHLS is payable in your circumstances. It is important that you complete the form fully and carefully. However, if the Trustee requires further information from you to reach a decision, someone will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
If the Trustee agrees to pay a SIHLS, the value of the lump sum will then be calculated by Aon, the Plan’s Actuary. Although the SIHLS will extinguish your right to any further benefits from the Plan, a pension may still be payable to your loved ones on your death.
