Expression of Wish
View transcript
An Expression of Wish Form tells the Trustee, who you would like your pension plan benefits to go to after you’re gone. Let’s face it, thinking about what might happen if we were to die isn’t something that most of us want to spend much time doing. But, spending just five minutes now could give you peace of mind that your loved ones will be looked after should the worst happen.
As an HP Plan member, a lump sum may be payable if you die, similar to a life insurance policy.
A Dependant’s pension may also be payable, so you should also complete a form telling the Trustee who you think this should be paid to as well.
The Trustee will use your Expression of Wish Form to help them decide who to make payments to. Ultimately, it’s the Trustee’s decision but knowing your wishes is really important.
If you haven’t completed an Expression of Wish Form, any lump sum and/or Dependants Pensions will still be paid but your loved ones may have to wait while the Trustee investigates who should receive this payment. The lump sum may also end up being paid to your estate, which means it may then be reduced, as Inheritance Tax may need to be paid.
You should regularly update the Trustee by providing a new Expression of Wish Form, particularly if your circumstances change. The content is confidential.
Simply download the Form from the Plan website, complete it and send it to:
